What Might Have Been
What Might Have Been
I was hearing that fractal artist, "Mr. Velocipede", is now a proud parent. Congratulations, Mr. V., wherever you are!

Always There to Rely On
Always There to Rely On
With Remembrance Day just past, I thought of an ex-soldier whose article I read. He has gone back to college and has to take some art courses for his degree. Being severely practical, he can't see the point of art. Art musing: Art is.... Escapism! Look at art and leave your world behind for awhile.
In a sense, the military is always there to rely on, despite the occasional scandal and botch-up. As someone once said, if you don't have an army, you'll have someone else's!

Back in grade school, we kids had to put brown paper covers on our notebooks. We were allowed to draw on these covers. Most of us were OK drawers except for this one kid who was really good. It was fun to watch him putting his lines down. He was an affable kid and would draw a pic on other kids covers when asked. It always stood out from what was there already. I remember thinking when I get to high school, they'll teach me how to draw like that. But then, who taught that kid? Once I asked him who his favourite drawer was and he said Wallace Wood. Years later, when I looked at Wood's work on the 'net, I remembered this kid. He'd moved to Germany the year after we met (service family) and I never saw him again.

Television Wisdom
"The used light bulbs of Miss Menlo's life, when they cease lighting her way, out they go"
From a Night Gallery episode. Delivered by Joan Crawford in her beautiful voice. Not many TV lines stay with me but for some reason, that one does. Another one is Captain Kirk in the Return of the Archons after he puts Landru out of business, he tells the former guards, "better start looking for another job!"
